Bed Bug Control Stockport

Bed Bug Control & Removal

Until the mid-90s, bed bugs were practically a thing of the past due to the use of a cockroach killing insecticide used by hotels and other business such as bed and breakfasts, campsites etc that also deal effectively with bed bugs. Improvements in laundry detergents and cheaper washing machines also meant that domestic properties were easier to keep clean of bed bugs as well.

However, the insecticide used by hotels has now been banned, leaving many establishments without an effective and consistent treatment for bed bugs. This means that anyone already carrying bed bugs or their eggs in their clothing that stays at a hotel is more likely to leave them behind. With the increase in cheaper and regular air travel, it’s now even easier for these parasites to be unknowingly transferred from person to person.

We would always recommend washing all items of clothing thoroughly when you return from a holiday or from staying in any hotel, just as a precautionary measure.

If you suspect you have a bed bug infestation and live in the Manchester, Stockport or Cheshire areas, call us as soon as possible and our technicians will visit you and provide effective and efficient treatment

Bed bug life cycle

Bed bugs are hardy little parasites and can survive in upholstery, clothes, bedding, furniture and in any cracks or crevices close to a regular food source. As that food source is you, your bedding and mattress are prime hotspots for them. Once hatched, they grow to maturity in around 35 days and can start feeding and breeding straight away. They are happy in warm or cold temperatures and are attracted to body warmth and the carbon dioxide we exhale.

As parasites, they feed on the blood of their victims and will leave itchy spots or rashes in the areas they feed on. They are most often just before dawn so you will often only notice the bites in the morning when you wake up and they are at their itchiest. Luckily they do not carry any disease, but the itchy bites are unpleasant and can cause infections if scratched.

If you think you have been bitten or have spotted bits on your body, make sure you inspect your bedding carefully as it is the most likely location for an infestation. Bed bugs are big enough to spot with the naked eye and will often cluster in folds of sheets or mattress corners. They are a gingery red colour and are about four or five millimetres long. You may also be able to spot dots of dried blood on your bedding from their feeding.

If you do spot any or are sure you have an infestation, contact us to have the problem dealt with once and for all.

Bed bug treatment

Professional treatments carried out by our trained and experienced technicians are the best and only way to ensure that your property is left bed bug free and remains that way. They breed very quickly and you need to deal with the whole life cycle to ensure that the problem is removed, as only dealing with the eggs or adults will not resolve the problem. Our technicians will recommend the best course of treatment based on your specific circumstances and will do their best to minimise any disruption to your property and daily routine.

There are some steps you can take to prevent return infestations as well, such as regularly changing and cleaning bedding, and having your mattress fully steam cleaned once the bed bugs have been dealt with. Remember that you can always catch them again in the future from other locations, so maintaining a high level of cleanliness and regular washing/laundry routines will go a long way towards lessening the likelihood of another infestation.

For any major infestations in the Manchester, Stockport or Cheshire areas, contact us as soon as possible to arrange a visit and treatment course from one of our skilled and experienced technicians. Don’t suffer in silence, and don’t risk passing bed bugs onto anyone else either.
