Flea Control Ardwick

Flea control & removal

For pet owners, the chances of encountering a flea problem at some point are very high – it’s, unfortunately, a common problem for anyone who has a furry friend of any description. Left unchecked, fleas can become a serious problem and a serious detriment to your health and wellbeing, so it is crucially important to deal with any problem as soon as you spot it – time is not on your side when it comes to fleas.

Luckily, we offer several very effective treatments for flea problems, as well as guidance and advice on how to minimize the risk of future infestations.

Spotting fleas

So, the main problem is that fleas are tiny, move quickly and can be very hard to spot, especially on dark-furred pets. However, there are a few signs that you can watch out for.

The most obvious sign is your pet scratching more and more due to the bites and faeces of the fleas. You might also be able to spot “flea dirt” on surfaces and on your pet’s fur – this reddish-brown dust is actually flea droppings. Finally, you might be able to spot dislodged eggs on surfaces once your pet has finished scratching – these will look like tiny white specks or grains. And of course, there are flea bites on your own skin. While there aren’t that many fleas that will actively choose humans as a host, you may well find yourself catching incidental bites from fleas passed on by your pets.

Whatever tips you off to their presence, it is vitally important that a flea problem is dealt with quickly as they reproduce incredibly quickly and can be hard to shift once established and settled on a pet or in a property.

Flea treatments

There are a number of flea treatments designed for pets themselves, and we would recommend contacting either ourselves or a vet for advice on the best course of treatment for your specific pet as some treatments will be more effective on certain animals than others. We would always recommend being cautious of harsh chemical treatments as these can cause harm to your pet while dealing with the fleas.

It’s even more important to deal with the environment and your property when treating fleas – perhaps more so than treating your pet itself. While this might sound strange, it’s because only adult fleas will be active on your pets, and these will die naturally at the end of their life cycle. However, the eggs they leave behind will be on your pet, their bedding, your furnishings and carpets, and anywhere else your pet will have had contact with. With the rapid growth and reproduction cycle of fleas, this means that if you only clean your pet you will find yourself dealing with a new outbreak of fleas on a regular basis.

It’s therefore important that you contact us to deal with the root of the problem – our technicians will ensure that not only any live fleas are dealt with but that any eggs or hatchlings are also eradicated as well, resolving the problem once and for all. All of our treatments are designed to be as harmless as possible to both your pets and yourself, and we are able to deal with problems anywhere in the Manchester, Stockport and Cheshire areas.
