Moth Control Warrington

Moth control and removal in Manchester, Stockport and Cheshire.

You will commonly encounter three types of moth that can cause damage in your property:

Clothes Moths are six to eight millimetres long, do not have any markings and are a straw colour. Its larvae can grow to ten millimetres, have a brown head and a creamy white body. These will damage your clothes and fabrics.

Brown House Moths are eight to fourteen millimetres long and have three or four dark spots on a brown body. Its larvae can grow up to twenty millimetres, have a brown head and an almost-white body. These will target animal-based textiles such as leather, wool and feathers.

White Shouldered House Moths are six to ten millimetres long, have mottled wings and a white head. Its larvae can grow up to twelve millimetres, have a reddish brown head and a cream coloured body. They will not damage fabrics, but will lay eggs in foodstuffs.

It’s important to remember that it’s not the adult flying moths that will cause damage to your fabrics, but their larvae and caterpillars, which eat and grow while feeding on your clothes and so on. Moths do not pose any risk to your health, but it is worth dealing with any infestations as quickly as possible to avoid damage to your textiles.

If you see moths matching any of these descriptions you should immediately check your clothes as well as other fabrics around the house for signs of damage, and begin employing moth control techniques. If you discover a serious infestation, contact us as soon as possible.

Other moth species are harmless and will not cause any damage to your fabrics or textiles.

Prevention techniques

Moths can lay up to 650 eggs at a time, so it is easy for infestations to quickly grow out of hand. If you spot multiple moths flying around your property then chances are you already have a serious infestation. The eggs will be laid in dry dark places such as cupboards, wardrobes and loft spaces – all the places you like to store your clothes and textiles. Regular cleaning and washing of both these spaces and your clothes will deal with the issue at hand, but if you are intending ot keep clothes or fabrics in storage for any length of time, it is worth sealing them in plastic bags or suitcases to deny the moths access to lay their eggs and the larvae from feeding on them.

Damage to carpets can be prevented by hovering regularly, including the areas under furniture as these are prime areas for moth eggs to be laid. Food should be kept in sealed containers and stored in cupboards that are cleaned regularly as well.
