Mouse Control Crewe

Mouse control and removal

Mice might seem like the cutest and smallest rodent problem you could encounter, but don’t let yourself get fooled by the cuteness – mice are a true nuisance and can cause severe property damage as well as spread disease and secondary insect and parasite infestations. If you encounter a mouse problem anywhere in the Manchester, Stockport or Cheshire areas, it is vitally important to contact us as soon as possible to deal with the infestation before it quickly grows outs of hand.

Signs of a mouse infestation

The two most common types of mouse in the UK are the Wood Mouse and the House Mouse. Both are similar looking and share large ears, pointed noses and small protruding eyes, however there are a few differences to look out for.

Wood mice are around 5cm long and light brown in colour. They are often found in more rural areas and properties, and are especially a problem for agricultural properties.

House mice are a little smaller than their rural cousins and are darker in colour. They are a common problem in food preparation properties and older properties that may have plenty of access points in old walls.

Mice are nocturnal, so actually spotting them in the flesh is often difficult. However, there are a few more things that you can look out for. The clearest sign of a mouse problem is droppings – a mouse will let go of around 70 droppings a day and urinate almost constantly as they move around. It’s therefore common to see small brown droppings and smear marks along skirting boards, walls and corners. You may also notice a musty smell, which comes from their nest and bedding materials.

As rodents they are constantly gnawing on things to keep their teeth short, so look out for chew marks on cardboard, wooden furniture, cables or anything else that can be bitten. The chewing of cables, apart from causing serious damage to your electrical appliances, could lead to a fire which is why this is particularly dangerous. On occasions, in fact, mice make their nest within electrical appliances so it is important to carry out mouse control as soon as you can to prevent fire hazards from developing.

You may also often hear a scurrying sound at night, especially from roof spaces and within walls.

Disease carriers

As mentioned before, mice are incontinent and urinate anywhere they go, which makes them perfect vectors for spreading disease. They can easily transfer tapeworms, salmonella food poisoning, ringworm and meningitis among other diseases and bacteria and are a serious problem for any food preparation businesses.

They also breed very quickly and their numbers can quickly get out of hand, so it is vitally important that you contact us as soon as possible to deal with them. Our technicians are available anywhere in Manchester, Stockport and Cheshire and will provide effective treatment as well as advice and preventative methods to stop any further mouse problems.
